Learning to play the bass guitar, much like any other instrument, requires effort and time. From finger-style to picking techniques, styles vary greatly and no matter whether you choose to practice jazz scales or funky bass rhythms, learning to play any instrument takes patience and good information to start with. The choices don't stop there. From acoustic bass guitars to the latest electric bass guitars and bass guitar effects and rigs. The amount of information and knowledge required seems endless.
After you've chosen your instrument you'll need to master a few skills from simply tuning, to picking, finger style, chords, scales, rhythm, mastering the art of the bass guitar solo etc. You may want to play acoustic, electric, or a variety of instruments. Each has it's own particular techniques, benefits and limitations.
Of course then there's effects, and learning how to get a good sound on your recordings! Musicians have never been so challenged.
